Intro to Tech
Interested in cave or technical diving? TDI Intro to Tech is the first step in technical training. In this course, you’ll learn to dive backmount doubles, and work on skills - such as trim and buoyancy, new propulsion techniques, and situational awareness - that are essential for safe and efficient technical diving.
Intro to Tech serves as a foundation for future technical (e.g., AN/DP) or overhead (e.g., cavern, intro cave) training. We’ll learn new anti-silting propulsion techniques (e.g., frog kicks, back kicks), team-oriented technical dive planning and execution, safety drills, including S-drills (gas donation) and valve drills, and fine-tune trim and buoyancy, in backmount doubles.
No prior experience in technical configurations is required or expected; this is a great first step for advanced divers looking to bridge the gap from single-tank recreational to technical diving. If you’re looking for a doubles primer, this is it!
Complimentary rental gear is provided for students who do not own their own equipment. Many tech-focused shops in our area also offer rental sidemount, doubles, and stages or pony bottles.
Our ITT instructor, Peter Kibler, is an active tech and cave diver, with extensive personal experience of Florida cave and cavern systems. He is certified through the Full Cave/Cave DPV level, as well as Advanced (Hypoxic) Trimix, and proficient in both sidemount and backmount doubles.
Students already proficient in sidemount or doubles are also welcome to take this course to hone their trim, buoyancy, and technical teamwork and dive planning skills.
