Decompression Procedures

As recreational divers, planned decompression is not something that we do or have been taught. The TDI Decompression Procedures Course prepares you for planned staged decompression diving. With a maximum operating depth of 45 metres/150 feet, this course is your first step beyond the normal recreational diving limits. The TDI Deco Procedures Course combined with the TDI Advanced Nitrox course form the foundation of all other technical courses.

This course examines the theory, methods, and procedures of planned stage decompression diving. We will spend one day in the springs, and then go off-shore for a day of ocean diving on a boat charter, so that you get experience with deco procedures in both environments. Costs of the boat charter are not included in prices below. At least two of the four dives will be deeper than 100’.

This program is designed as a stand-alone course, or may be taken in conjunction with TDI Advanced Nitrox. We strongly recommend students take Advanced Nitrox either prior to or concurrently with the deco procedures course, to allow for the use of oxygen during decompression.

Deco Procedures is one of the first courses in the tech sequence that expands your certification beyond recreational limits. As such, you will be expected to take the course in doubles or sidemount. Please note, you should be proficient in your chosen configuration prior to starting class. If you are new to these configurations, we offer an Intro to Tech (ITT) coursethat will introduce you to backmount doubles and the foundations of technical diving (tech-level trim, buoyancy, finning, etc). We are also happy to refer you to local sidemount instructors.

Our deco procedures instructor, Peter Kibler, is an active tech and cave diver, with extensive personal experience of Florida cave and cavern systems. He is certified through the Full Cave/Cave DPV level, as well as Advanced (Hypoxic) Trimix, and proficient in both sidemount and backmount doubles. For more on his tech/cave teaching philosophy, see here.
